Something’s Happening Here

"Something's happening here. What it is ain't exactly clear." — Buffalo Springfield

Let's cut to the chase, shall we?

The economy is falling apart, our rights and civil liberties have all but disappeared, our youth are largely illiterate (why read books when there's TikTok?), public morals are at an all-time low, politicians represent no one but themselves, and the government is so corrupt it's impossible to trust a word they say.

Everyone senses in their gut that these things are true, but few can actually put their finger on why everything seems to have gone so wrong, so quickly.

A few decades ago it was, “Mom, apple pie and the American Dream.” Today Mom is on Prozac, the apples are genetically modified, and the American Dream is fast becoming the American Nightmare.

Many of us would like to help turn this situation around. We know that, somewhere, there is an answer to America's mounting problems. But to solve a problem—any problem—you first must determine its root causes.

“There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root.” Henry David Thoreau

Not only do we need to know the right questions to ask, and where to find the answers, we need the wisdom and the discernment to know the difference between truth and moonshine when we see it.

We Americans like to believe that we're free. Many of us still sing the national anthem at football games and feel a surge of pride every time they hoist Old Glory. But how can we truly be free when we need the government's permission to do just about anything?

From occupational licenses, to building permits, to property taxes so that even those who hold clear title to their property remain as feudal tenants on their own land, to being herded like sheep through airports, to paying the IRS as much as 50% of every dime we earn in fees, fines and taxes… does anyone remember how to be a citizen anymore? Or have we all turned into compliant, obedient consumers?

By way of illustration—and this is just one of many problems illustrating the blight of empty governance that permeates today's culture—our entire monetary system is failing precisely because it is built, not upon real money with real value, but upon a mountain of credit that has no value at all, and can never mathematically be repaid.

It's true; rather than being spent into existence under the lawful, sovereign monetary power of the federal government, our money supply is loaned into existence by the Federal Reserve, a private central bank that is no more federal than Federal Express.

Like “watering the milk,” each new currency unit created reduces the value of the others already in circulation. This is the very essence of inflation, the most insidious tax you will ever pay since it decimates the purchasing power of your net worth and makes a mockery of retirement.

Here's how the scheme (scam?) works: the Social Security Administration may promise to send you, say, $1,000 each month when you retire. And they'll make good on that promise. When you retire they will electronically transfer 1,000 currency units to your bank account each month.

What they will not promise is what those 1,000 currency units will actually purchase, ten, twenty or even forty years from now, when a loaf of bread may cost $25, a pair of sneakers $200 and rent for a 1-bedroom apartment $4,000 a month. This is nothing but a grand financial swindle, dressed up as a social retirement program.

Our nation's founders, having experienced in their own time the hyper-inflationary collapse of the Continental Dollar, wrote into the Constitution at Article I, Section 10 that: “No state shall make any thing but gold and silver coin a tender in payment of debt.”

What does this mean? It means that every one of the 50 states is currently in a state of sedition against the Constitution. Now, this may seem to be just a curious economic footnote from history. But whether you realize it or not, it cuts to the very heart of the most pressing issue in your life.

For without a stable economic system, there can be no such thing as liberty, property, savings, retirement, security or anything similar. If you want to take down a culture, indeed an entire civilization, you first must weaken it at the center.

The easiest way to take over a nation isn’t with guns and soldiers, but with television, social media and the printing press. Once the center is sufficiently soft and rotted; once the taxpayers are working as hard as they can, with little to no time left each week for themselves (and with 70% taking medications to cope with the stress); once the collective public mind has been shrunk and molded into a fearful little vessel, it’s a simple matter to sweep everyone along with the next emergency.

Sadly, it has taken over twelve generations for America to sink from liberty to dependency. What would it take to turn things around again? To transform our nation from crony fascism under the rule of liars, crooks and idiots back into a constitutional republic under the rule of law?

My best guess? Probably a few generations educated in the principles of liberty, responsibility and self-governance. Homeschoolers, unite!

And what to do in the meantime? Don’t look to D.C. (District of Corruption) to save you. The federal government is a living, breathing organism comprised of millions of individual cells (politicians, bureaucrats, nonessential government workers) and, like any organism, it seeks to survive.

In times of crisis (economic collapse, social upheaval, World War III, grid down…) the government will always take care of itself first, and then the people, and in that order.

What can the individual citizen do to repair the system at the national level? Absolutely nothing. If it makes you feel better, write your senator a letter. While you’re at it, suggest that they wear sponsorship patches on their suits like NASCAR drivers. Then at least we’d know what we’re paying for!

However, each of us possesses extraordinary power to make a difference at the county and state level. While waiting patiently for the entire system to implode and reset, we must reinforce states’ rights.

Read the Constitution again. Then read your state constitution. Become politically active locally. Make a ruckus. Shake things up! Get on the school board. Become a county commissioner. Support your sheriff. Create a disaster preparedness plan at the county level.

Get resilient. Get diversified. Get prepared. Get off the grid. Get back to nature. Teach your young teens to become sharpshooters (just in case). Network with like-minded patriots. Enjoy life, far from the craziness. And always, have fun!

Because if you think things are crazy now, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
