Notes From Gordon: Caffeine Slows Cellular Aging, Keeps Old Geezers Going

From The Article: “Research suggests caffeine acts like a personal trainer for our cells… stress exerted by caffeine… switches on protective genes and keeps cells in repair mode… extending their lifespan… Caffeine’s natural activation of this pathway suggests it could be a valuable nutritional tool…”

A Note From Gordon: For 60 years now I’ve started each day with two cups of coffee. That’s about 21,900 days so far and 43,800 cups of coffee, but who’s counting?

The first cup jump starts my frontal cortex. The second cup gets my two hemispheres talking to each other. And I’m off to the races…

People tell me I don’t look or act my age (too immature?). I like to joke that I’m well preserved because of the all drugs I took during the Summer Of Love. But maybe it’s really the caffeine. Who knew?

Now that I’m approaching 80 (years, not miles per hour) it’s probably time to add a third cup. But I wouldn’t want to speed things up too much. My kids already say that dad has two speeds: ON and OFF.

They often ask me at our weekly family meetings to tone things down a little. I guess it’s tough for them to keep up. After all, they’re in their 20’s already and not getting any younger.

You know… that third cup sounds pretty good. Heck, what’s a little tachycardia at my age? It’s not like I’m married to a hot blonde. That was 40 years ago and I’ve already outlived her. So coffee will have to do.

Unless you have any hot sexagenarians available? There sure aren’t any over at the local nursing home. I swear, some of these gals are pickled in formaldehyde already.

Now, that wasn’t very nice, Gordon. But that’s what the third cup does to me! Peels off all traces of civility and turns up the snark. Maybe I’d better go back down to two cups. Or make the third cup decaf?

This calls for a nap. A little relaxation will sort things out. Then I can start the second half of my day. With two cups.
